Hello guys, I am Phillip Coule, a front-end developer at SignalHire. With years of front-end development experience, I always tried to focus on functionality rather than looks. Still, personal preferences have little to do with the end-product quality because in front-end, no supreme functionality can compensate for poor or outdated visuals.

These two always have to go hand in hand — after all, it’s called front-end for a reason.

Another aspect I always tried to focus on while choosing projects and employers is the value of each app or website under development. In other words — who is this product for, and how beneficial it is for the end-user? Today, anyone can order software development, but not everyone can come up with a creative product idea that would actually turn at least some processes for the better.

These key values — functionality, sleek visuals, and actual value for the user — have always been decisive factors for me. And I am very excited that my latest project embodies all three. SignalHire is a web-based database of verified professional contacts. The browser version of the service currently has over 400 million valid contacts. It supports both bulk and individual search by different criteria — from the person’s name to a more diverse search by companies, job titles, specific keywords, etc.

The database presupposes team access for recruiting teams, data export and sharing, and much more. This website has plenty of useful resources — from job descriptions to informative blog posts. But, the thing that really matters is that the whole system remains intuitive and user-friendly. We’ve come up with a layout and functionality even a child can figure out, and given how complex in functionality this tool really is, I call it a big win.

For those recruiters who like to do things on the go, there is a browser extension. A simple click on a relevant icon while browsing LinkedIn pulls contact details from the database described above. The plugin incorporates the same ‘simple, effective, and visually appealing’ principle as the website, and both work in perfect synergy. That’s an example of a project I think is an ultimate development success.
