Courtney D
Teacher, Caregiver, and Volunteer in Ontario
I am a new J/I Science Teacher with a passion for instilling a love of inquiry and learning throughout life. My background is in Human Health Sciences. I have spent 14 years as a caregiver and volunteer with children and youth programs.
I value human connection and the opportunity of connecting with people, our commonalities and differences, through languages, cultures, and life experiences.
Though English is my first language, it is not an area of strength and learning about language is a struggle. I have had limited in depth interactions and contexts with ELL. However, my father was an ELD student and unfortunately, it was seen as a barrier not an opportunity. I have also seen the challenges and opportunities Science learning has for ELL and I have shared in the joys of ELL and their classmates who support each other and celebrate success.
Through this course, I hope to learn more about language and literacy, teaching language, supporting ELL holistically, and learning from the insight and experience of others.
In my spare time I enjoy outdoor activities, cooking/baking, animals, music and laughter.
