Courtney Ng

Courtney was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She is currently a teaching assistant for Blue Engine, a non-profit that serves high-need schools in NYC.

A graduate of Rice University, Courtney was an Anthropology major and a Mellon Mays Undergraduate fellow whose research focused on the African diaspora. She spent the summer of 2010 doing research at New Philadelphia, Illinois - the first town founded by a free African American - as part of a National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. When she was not digging artifacts out in the cornfields, she was studying abroad in Lima, Peru, and doing research on Swahili archaeology in Tanzania. While at Rice, she founded an undergraduate student organization called the Mentorship Project which focused on assisting Houston-area high school students with their college applications. She also served as Editor in Chief of the Rice Standard, Rice's online student publication.

On a less hectic day after school is over, Courtney spends her time writing about her diverse experiences. Learning about new cultures and places, through both travel and research, are her greatest passions.
