Charlie Pownall

Advocate, Researcher, and Writer in Cambridge, United Kingdom

Long fascinated by technology and its impact on society and business, I am an active proponent of strong digital rights and safe, transparent and trustworthy technologies.

I founded and am managing editor of AIAAIC, an independent public interest initiative that examines and makes the case for the transparency, openness and accountability of AI, algorithmic and automation systems.

I am an RSA Fellow, a member of the European Commission’s European AI Alliance and am a guest lecturer aee the University of Cambridge.

My book Managing Online Reputation: How to Protect your Company On Social Media (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015) has been described by a top UK media lawyer as 'the Art of Reputation for the digital age'.

Outside work, my interests range from reading, writing and politics to music, tennis, cycling and photography.

I am currently based in Cambridge, UK, and travel extensively for work and pleasure, mostly across Europe, the Middle-east and Asia. I was born and worked in Hong Kong and have also lived and worked in Brussels, Madrid and Singapore, with stints in Tokyo and Sydney.
