MICHELLE TORMEY
Penrith Local Governmet Area
My name is Cr Michelle Tormey and I am in my first term as a Penrith City Councillor. My election marked a historic event for the Nepean Greens, as I was the first Greens Councillor to be elected to this council.
I was born in Penrith and have lived the area with my family my entire life. I am a mother to a four year old daughter, Amelia. I currently reside in Werrington.
I believe in a grassroots democracy, and open and transparent decision making processes in Local Government.
I believe in community engagement and empowerment that will provide the community of Penrith with the ability to shape the future of area.
I have a strong committment to ecological sustainability and was appointed as a Sustainability Champion and is the Council Representative on the Catchment Management Authority (CMA) Local Government Reference Group.
I am also committed to social justice and I have a keen interest in families, children and younger people of the City being a council representative on the Penrith City Children's Services Co-Operative Board and previously a Parent Committee Representative at Yoorami Children's Services Centre (Werrington).
As a young Green, I want to conserve the environment for the benefit of current and future generations. In addition, I am also a keen advocate of young people’s involvement in governmental decision-making processes.
