I am a Senior Lecturer in Housing Studies at the School of Social & Political Sciences (Urban Studies) University of Glasgow.

My teaching & research interests include the meaning of home, social harm, housing and health, social murder & the social construction of housing tenure. My scholarship interests include critical pedagogy, on-line learning and teaching, feedback literacy & audience response tools.

I have 1500+ citations to my published work.

I am Vice Chair of the Housing Studies Association and an elected management board member for Chartered Institute of Housing (Scotland).

I was a full-time ESRC-funded PhD student at SAUS, University of Bristol 1989-1991 & briefly worked there as a Research Assistant prior to my first lectureship at Sheffield Hallam University 1991-1996. From 1996-2019 I worked at Cardiff University where, in both 2018 & 2019 I won the most innovative member of staff title at the university-wide Enriching Student Life Awards.

I moved to the School of Social & Political Sciences (Urban Studies) at the University of Glasgow as Director of the PG Dip/MSc Housing Studies Programme in January 2020. I was runner-up in the "Best College Lecturer" & "Highly Innovative Teaching" categories at the annual Glasgow University SRC Awards in 2020 & 2021. In 2020 I presented evidence to the Equalities, Local Government and Communities Committee on the Renting Homes (Amendment) (Wales) Bill. I served as Pathway Convenor for Social Work & Public Policy in the Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences 2021-2023 and, in 2021 was a member of the QAA subject benchmark statement panel for Housing Studies. I have recently designed a Massive Open On-line Course (Mooc) on Gentrification and an up-skilling micro-credential on-line course on Homelessness. I was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2024.

Outside of work, I'm a long-suffering Swindon Town supporter but since moving to Scotland have enjoyed ground hopping throughout the Scottish football pyramid. Other interests include vintage clothes, megalithic sites, Eurovision, shoegaze & indie pop music.
