Patrick Crawford
I'm a recent graduate with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Michigan State University.
I currently work at Citizen Planner, and during my two years in the community planning field I've been given so many great opportunities. Right now I create action plans for the Safe Routes to School program. In June I will have finished more than 21 action plans for communities enabling them to apply for as much as $250,000 to help fund their goals of increased walking and bicycling.
I've also worked as a Teacher's Assistant for a senior level planning course titled "GIS & Design Tools for Planning (UP424)". In the class room I've taught over 50 students the fundamentals of implementing GIS technology and, with my presentation experience, I've also helped each student by giving them a few tips and insider secrets for creating better posters and becoming greater public speakers.
I was also given the opportunity to act as the Urban and Regional Planning Student Association's President for a year, and as an elected student representative for 2, working as the Director of Marketing for the year prior. I greatly enjoyed sending 21 my peers to the APA National Conference in Boston with me by collecting funds to sponsor every student who wished to attend. I coordinated multiple social and academic events but also ran bi-weekly meetings which highlighted the planning profession with guest speakers from all sorts of fields.
...and I'm looking for a job! With a background in the community planning field, a deep interest in sustainability and transportation planning as well as several other related fields I find most work interesting. I am also GIS proficient, with design and presentation skills spanning from simple Microsoft Power Point presentations to 134 page full color documents, printed and bound into a soft cover book using Adobe InDesign. I'm a well rounded and young but experienced worker excited about the opportunities ahead of me.
