Cristina Caridad Peruyera
Miami, Florida
Hello! My name is Cristina Caridad Peruyera. I am a Cuban American from Miami currently living in Philadelphia as a student at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. One of my biggest accomplishments to date is being the first generation to attend college in my family. My acceptance into Wharton not only served as a validation for hard-work and perseverance, but instilled in me a drive to learn as much as I can while serving as a role model to other HIspanics and minorities.
Aside from pursuing my Bachelor's degree, my extracurricular involvements encompass a variety of passions. Prior to attending Wharton, I attended an arts magnet high school - New World School of the Arts - where I studied and fell in love with opera. I have had the priviledge of performing in prestigious places such as the Adrienne Arsht Center, Gusman Hall, James L. Knight Center and the White House for the Christmas Lighting Ceremony. Apart from simply performing, I have held various positions on the board of the Junior Opera Guild; a non-profit organization determined to increase the awareness and appreciation of opera amongst youth. On campus, I have performed as a memebr of the University Choir and I am currently in a group entitled Rodin Opera Scenes. Although I am not pursuing an arts degree, music and all other forms of art will always hold a special place in my heart. In terms of other interests, I enjoy serving various mentor roles. Looking back at all my accomplishments, I realize that none would have been possible had it not been for the support of my family, friends, teachers and mentors. This being said, I have made it my life goal to amke sure that I give back by serving as a role model to others. Throughout my academic career I have served as a mentor in various academic groups, such as National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society, and multiple minority groups such as Wharton Women, Wharton Latino and Management Leaders for Tomorrow for which I am a Recruiting Captain. I particularly focus my efforts on assisting minorities because I feel that even within my own family there is still a lot to be done in terms of increasing minority prticipation in college and Corporate America thereafter.
