Cristina Spinei (b. 1984) is in demand from choreographers, film directors, and musicians. Her compositions have been commissioned and performed by the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Cadillac Moon Ensemble, Denison University Orchestra, Ebony Strings Quartet, ETA3 Trio, Gallim Dance, Golden Hornet Project, Kathleen Dyer Dance NY, London Central School, Mary Seidman and Keystone Dancers, the Metropolis Ensemble, the National Symphony Orchestra of Uruguay OSSODRE, New York Chamber Music Festival, New York Choreographic Institute, New York Piano Quartet, MuSe, Pacific Northwest Ballet, St. John’s Church, St. Michel Strings, and Treetops Chamber Music Society.
Ms. Spinei is the recipient of the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism Grant for Composition, two Composer Assistance Awards from the American Music Center, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts composition grant, the New York State Council on the Arts composition grant, and the Composition Award from the Arts Recognition and Talent Search.
As a co-founder of the group Blind Ear, Ms. Spinei produces interdisciplinary concerts that fuse new technology with contemporary music. Blind Ear has been featured on BBC's radio program World Today, on YouTube's weekly Spotlight on Music section, at three World Technology Awards ceremonies, and in The Strad.
Ms. Spinei's string orchestra piece Synched has been recorded on Alba Records with Maestro Jose Serebrier and the St. Michel Strings. Her composition Mahler Remixed has been recorded by the New York Piano Quartet and is released by Urlich Audio/Visual.
Upcoming projects include a song cycle for mezzo-soprano and orchestra based on the poetry and art of Stephen Clark. Ms. Spinei received her BM and MM in composition from the Juilliard School where she studied with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Christopher Rouse.
