Hey there, I’m Cristina!
I am a Junior/Intermediate teacher. I never thought I could imagine myself thriving in a primary classroom; however, my most recent LTO positions in Grades 1, 2 and 3 made me fall in love with teaching young minds.
My teaching career began in Italy back in 2010. I studied in Florence to get my TESOL certification and stayed in the country for another 6 months working in private schools and tutoring adults and children. Upon completing my B.Ed. at Wilfrid Laurier, I moved to England and taught in Essex for three years. I did some occasional work, but spend most of my time teaching full-time in Year 6. Now I live in my hometown of St. Thomas and work with the public and Catholic school boards in this region.
During the pandemic life forced me to find comfort in all the small things. Normally I felt antsy if I haven't traveled or ventured to cities within Ontario for a little get away. However, leaving my city has become worrisome. Now I find myself going on longer walks in my neighborhood, having a chat over the fence with my neighbors more often, saying hello to everyone I pass on the street, organizing all my closets and most importantly spending quality time with my family. I used to avoid playing board games, but I see how much joy it gives my parents to sit and chat while trying to win all the rounds of Rummy Tiles. As difficult as this time has been, it has reminded me of how lucky I am to have such a loving family and supportive network of friends.
In my spare time, I like to be outdoors as much as possible; especially in the summer! A few years ago I bought a proper road bike. This summer, the bike has been my escape. I love riding on the quiet country roads, particularly at sunrise or just before sunset. I am a dog Mom of two small canines. Both are senior citizens and I make sure they get all the love and spoils they deserve. My dogs do not judge my dance moves and appreciate my taste in music- I suppose it helps that the one is now deaf and often sleeps right through my dance breaks.

I am most certainly someone who thrives in an environment which includes collaboration and constructive feedback. I look forward to learning about my fellow participants and working with you in this course :)
