Born in Lisbon, Cristóvão Luiz started the piano as a self-learner, while studying the violin with Klàra Erdei. António Ferreira and António Toscano were his first piano teachers. He studied with Sofia Lourenço and Luísa Tender at the Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espectáculo (Porto) and Markus Groh at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (Hannover). He participated in mastercourses with Sequeira Costa, Tania Achot, Fernando Puchol and Markus Tomas. As a concert pianist he has performed in various venues in Portugal, Germany and Italy. Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto with ESMAE Symphony Orchestra under Cesário Costa in 2006. Since 2005 Cristóvão Luiz colaborates at the Conservatório de Música do Porto as pianist. His passion and ability to play with others has given him the oportunity to work with Vintage Clarinet Quartet, the soprano Ana Maria Pinto, the doublebassist Thiérry Barbé, among many others. His interests have an ecclectic range: in 2003 the inventive genius of João Henriques allowed a team of young artists to create the show Innezeléctrica (Teatro Nacional São João); in 2006 he performed at the cembalo the recitatives of Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart under António Saiote (Teatro Helena Sá e Costa, Porto); in 2010 A Serrana - Fragmentos by A. Keil/V. Faria (Teatro Diogo Bernardes, Viana do Castelo); since 2011 a member of the Ruby Tango Quintet. As a boy he was member of the children's choir at São Carlos opera house, collaborating with singers, choirs, orchestras and opera houses ever since, as conductor of Círculo Portuense de Ópera's choir in 2003-4, as invited musician at Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música in 2009 and 2013 (piano/celesta/organ), or as pianist in singing master classes and competitions. Since 2010 he attends the doctoral program at Escola das Artes - Universidade Católica Portuguesa tutored by Sofia Lourenço.
