Something Learning Project should meet four basic objectives (given by the Volunteer Center of Orange County, www.volunteercenter.org ):

Meet an Actual Community Need

In partnership with your organization, students must gain an understanding of how the requirements of the city you serve are recognized. After devel-oping an understanding of these needs, students will actively participate in a service-learning project made to efficiently meet those needs.

Acquire an Understanding of the Bond Between School and Community

Students should develop a knowledge of the relationship between town and the school and the worthiness of school-community partnerships. This will be acquired through direct relationships with your business, team and/or clients to produce and implement meaningful service activities that meet the requirements of both the students and the community you serve.

Develop a Sense of Social Responsibility

Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of civic responsibility through their involvement in this service-learning activity. The project should meet an actual community need and improves the standard of living within the community.
