Crystal Tubbs

I graduated from ODU in 2009 with a B.A. in English with a journalism concentration. I am currently pursuing a M.A. in English with a professional writing concentration. I have focused most of my research on social media. I am fascinated with the new roles and applications that social media is developing. I have examined Facebook's new tool of archiving and its rhetorical implications. I have analyzed the use of social media tools, like Diigo, for educational collaboration. My social media research is culminating with a concentration on mobile media and devices. I am a mother who does most of her work on her phone and because of this personal connection, I am exploring this growing market and the social and educational implications of it. I have recently decided to turn my attention to teaching composition. I love writing and if it had not been for my college composition teacher, I would never have discovered my talent and passion for it. I have dedicated some of studies and research to developing my pedagogy. I have taken aspects from journalism, like gorilla journalism, to create a scaffolded approach to teaching composition that should engage students in a new way and that included current trends like visual arguments and social media. On a personal note, I love to read and have recently embraced the concept of Ebooks. I love watching tv shows that make me laugh...all time favorite, Friends. New favorite, The Big Bang Theory. I grew up in a religious house hold but I would say I am more spiritual than religious. My political views are right down the middle. I come from a HUGE Monarch family. I BLEED BLUE! Education has always been a focus in my life instilled in me by my family. I love to cook and playing hostess ;) Since the birth of my daughter, these core values have become even more important. She also pushes my harder to be a woman she can respect and be proud of, like I am of my mother. I hope you enjoy the rambling and thoughts on this site.
