Crystal Harrison
Lynchburg, Virginia
My name is Crystal Harrison and I currently live in Lynchburg, Virginia. I have actually lived in Lynchburg since December 2001 and I am grateful to call Lynchburg home. However, I was a military child and lived in: Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Kansas. I moved to Ohio as an adult from Roanoke, Virginia in 1999 but moved back to Virginia in 2001.
Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Reading is what I have decided to pursue at Liberty University. I enjoy reading and want to share the importance of reading with the younger children. Therefore, I am planning to be a Reading Specialist after I graduate. Reading is so important and sometimes individuals fail to realize just how important knowing how to read is in the world that we reside in. I am also extremely interested in doing autism research just to gain more knowledge about children with this disability. I have even had the pleasure of interacting with a child that has autism that resides in my community. Over the years, I have become friends with mothers of children with autism and have noticed some strong similarities and various and rather obvious differences. I am looking forward to following up on my interest in this disability that researchers are still working on but have not reached a clear reason as to why children and adults have this disability.
I currently work at Lynchburg Covenant Fellowship where I serve as the Resident Services Coordinator. I love my job because I am able to provide: events, activities and services to the residents. Lynchburg Covenant Fellowship is a non-profit organization that provides apartment homes to low-income individuals and families. I enjoy volunteering, meeting new people, ironing, collecting Dalmatian items, talking on the phone with friends and family, going to the movies, watching television and I truly enjoy watching as many games as possible during March Madness. I have two brothers that reside in Alabama and Arizona and one sister that lives in Roanoke, Virginia. My parents live in Kansas and I normally see them at least once a year.
I would like to learn and retain as much information as possible about theories, methods and research and how each applies to supervision of instruction and how they each relate to educating students.
