Mi-Young Park
Seoul, South Korea
Welp, time to start my memoir again.
Hello, I'm Mimi. I probably shouldn't be going around with my name like that, considering I was named after the Egyptian cat goddess (and I LOVE cats), Bastet. So you see, my real name is Bastet, or Ubasti, or Baast, or Baset, but my Korean name is Mi-Young, you get the rift (I hope).
I am actually of Egyptian ancestry in advanced (making me like 15% Egyptian or something), but my parents are from South Korea. They came to Egypt in 1990, since they had been studying Egyptology at the time. My mother got into labor the second day they were there, and I was born in a hospital in Cairo. I lived there most of my life, so I know a good deal about Islam and Arabic. On the days I didn't have school, I was taught Korean. Sometimes I would go to a Hangul school in the city, but that was probably once every two weeks.
My dream career back then was to learn more about my country and become an Egyptologist. My favorite goddess was Bastet (my name) because I liked cats (I should probably throw this out now to avoid confusion, all Egyptians love cats) and it was my name as well.
Sometimes my friends would call me "Goddess" because (like mentioned) Bastet is the Goddess of felines.
Growing up in a third world country, I was pretty limited of things. I had to shop for food at Bazaars, and it was scorching hot too. I would like to remind you that Egypt is located in Africa, a third world continent itself, so the weather there is like summer, but hotter.
Degrees flew up to 100° or more, but it's still much better than spending a winter in Korea.
Because most of the country is like a desert, people wanted to build cities near the Nile. Cairo especially is right next to the Nile, so a lot of people were squeezed in there.
Right now I live in Seoul, due to the heavy violence in Cairo. But I have been to South Africa, and I have a couple of photos with me. It was a very nice and wonderful place, and I continue to hope that I could go there again one day.
I was also taught British vocabulary, so you'll just have to catch up. My favourite things are pink, yellow, and blue. I also favour chocolates, falafels, Stir Fry, Bean Paste Fishies, Bubble Tea, Mochi, and Kimchi (in reality the list could go on but I'm not gonna add more).
TL;DR: My name is Bastet and I am Egyptian-Korean.
