Curtis Baines

Hi, I’m Curtis Baines and I'm a journalism student at Deakin University.

I'm currently in my 3rd year, about to embark on the frightful journey of internships and job applications - scary I know. I've worked in retail for the last 7 years as a casual, working my way up to management. This was my stop gap, my cliche "find your self moment," as I had 0 idea of what I wanted to do with my life.

I always enjoyed writing but buried my passion when my year 12 teacher decided to inform me that: "I cannot create a constructive sentence." But low and behold, I decided to give him a big fat middle finger, and do journalism anyway! So, I'm now in pursuit of fulfilling my dream of being a writer - something I've loved for as long as I can remember. He probably doesn't remember me lol, that was 5 years ago.

I'm really intrigued by the world of social media, and the intricacies of units such as Gamified Media. I particularly love the interactive elements and how were connecting to one another through platforms like this - its something I've never experienced in other units. One day I'd like to explore these avenues and do content creation, copywriting, or social media management - or maybe even all 3.

Putting myself out there is a scary prospect, but it's confidence boosting and rather enjoyable. It's also crucial in this day and age, as connecting is the way of the future!
