Carlos A. Valenzuela
Houston, Texas
I was born in San Diego, California on June 13, 1990 and was raised in Houston, Texas. I graduated with a degree in Broadcasting Journalism/ International Relations from the University of Houston in December 2013.
From August 2011 until July 2012 I had the distinction to participate in a respected fellowship program sponsored by the U.S Congress and its equivalent in Germany, The Congress-Bundestag Youth Fellowship Program. While in Germany I had the honor to complete an internship with RTL, one of the three major television networks in the country.
In Houston, I am very active in the media industry. Since 2008 I am an active member of the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals and from August 2008 until January 2013, I served as a marketing assistant at Arte Publico Press. Since 2010, I am an associate producer and reporter for "Houston on the Move," a lifestyle show magazine which airs on HCC-TV. I have also co-produced and hosted a spanish newscast for KPFT 90.1 FM. During my university years I have also been an active member of EGMN, a student run media organization. At EGMN I co-host "Feature News," a brief newscast with the top headlines of the week. During the Fall semester of 2010, I interned at KXLN Univision Channel 45, where I wrote for the nightly newscast as well as helped with production duties such as running the teleprompter.
Apart from my media stunts I am also active in Americorps VISTA ( Volunteers in Service to America,) where during the summer of 2011, I had the opportunity to volunteer with CASE and Harris County Department of Education during their summer school program. With Americorps, I was given the opportunity to be a tennis instructor to economically disadvantage children in the Houston area.
As of September 2012, I have the privilege to collaborate with the U.S Department of State and the U.S Consulate in Monterrey, Mexico as a Virtual Student Foreign Service Officer in the Public Affairs Section.
During my spare time I love meeting people from different cultures and countries as well as reading and playing tennis. I also enjoy reading and learning more about world affairs and I am particularly interested in America's foreign policy towards Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
