CARLOS VILLALOBOS (aka CJ Villa) has become quite a multi-faceted musician writing and producing music for rock and pop to scoring films and commercials to recording his own material on his own record label, Alistar Records. He is a multi-talented musician, artist, producer, songwriter and mixer who also sings, plays guitars, keyboards, drums, and bass on all his music from his private home studio. He also has several "one-man-band" projects, including his rock bands ANGRY CHIWAWAH and SUPERLOADED, the electronica infused project SONIC HEAD, and the critically acclaimed, Grammy nominated, ESPERANZA, incorporating Spanish and Flamenco guitars with global dance grooves.
He has also written & performed music underscores for several tv shows and movies. Carlos first entry into the tv/film music world was when he wrote, produced, performed and mixed the theme song, “Let Me Be The One” for Baywatch Hawaii, as well as the original music for the television series in 2000/2001. He has written additional music for the HBO show, Sex & The City, and has featured music on various movie trailers (see Discography). He continues to write and produce original music for companies such as APM Music and is regularly tapped to perform, write and/or produce demos for artists and publishers. He frequently contributes music to television shows including CSI:NY, Criminal Minds, Anthony Bourdaine: No Reservations, How I Met Your Mother, Dexter, Smallville, American Idol, Face Off, Betrayal, Crisis, among others.
He is a recipient of an IBA Award, presented by the Hollywood Radio and Television Society honoring the world’s best radio and television advertising for “Kaneohe” (Murata Creative), a HOKU Award Winner (Hawaiian Grammy) for “Best Reggae Album of the Year” (2000) – Iron Youth (Oshen), and was nominated for a HOKU for Jalen's "Thinking of You" album, (2000).
He is currently working in Chicago on the network tv shows Betrayal, Sirens, Mind Games, Crisis, Person of Interest, Chicago Fire, Boyband and EMPIRE and continues to live and work in Los Angeles part time writing and producing for recording artists.
