When you are from a small rural area like I am from, you will understand why I strive to succeed in life. I was born and raised in this small town called Bethel, North Carolina. Bethel is approximately ten miles from East Carolina University. Most people from around the area that I came from has never attended college or even complete their high school. I knew that I wanted to become someone important at a young age and I wanted to be one of the few people to leave the place that I knew was home.
As a young child I knew that I wanted to attend a HBCU and to pursue a career in the medical field. I am currently a junior and my field of study is Nursing. I plan on graduating spring of 2017 and pursing a career in Neonatal Nursing. Neonatal Nursing is caring for a newborn infant with a variety of problems such as, birth defects, being premature, and surgical problems for the first month of life or longer. Working with infants, toddlers, and children has always been a passion of mine. I use to volunteer at local daycare centers while I was in high school and I also use to babysit for family memebers and friends of the family.
Above I shared one of my favorite quotes by William Shakespeare that reads:
- "We know what we are, but not know what we may be."
To me the quote means I can tell you who I am and things about me, but I cannot tell you who I may become.
