Cydonia Gallery
Art Gallery and Fine Art in Dallas, TX
Situated inside the historic Texas Theatre in Dallas, Cydonia Gallery is a contemporary art gallery that collaborates closely with artists who have created works with strong conceptual foundations. With a focus on discovering new talent, Cydonia Gallery has given over 42 different artists appearances in solo and group exhibitions. Over 18 international artists were introduced to the region, with most artists appearing for the first time in the United States.
Hanh Ho was the helm of Cydonia Gallery until 2018. She launched the space in 2014 and curated the opening exhibition and catalog "Ex-Y: Representations of Contemporary Masculinity." The exhibition featured nine different artists from around the world who explored what it means to be male in the context of three waves of feminism. In 2016-2017, the curator built a campaign to underline the role of women in contemporary art discourses. She dedicated an entire year of programming to women artists in all exhibitions in the gallery and fairs.
In 2018, Hanh Ho oversaw thematic exhibitions centered on social activism and current topics spanning gentrification, gender equality, and cultural diversity. The exhibition line-up included the legendary Guerrilla Girls, Torontonian interventionists Marman & Borins, and Oak Cliff-based Giovanni Valderas. Briana Williams, Cydonia's new director, curated 'In Memory," a show featuring Polish multi-disciplinary artist, Alicja Bielawska, in dialogue with Mata Ortiz Potters from local purveyor Mercado369.
Cydonia Gallery has been groundbreaking in its curatorial selections. The gallery has supported diverse and marginalized voices, providing agency for ideas that had not been introduced to the region previously along, while maintaining conceptually-strong exhibition concepts. Cydonia works closely with artists to ensure innovative installations, strong exhibition concepts, and quality fabrication techniques. In its community, Cydonia Gallery has established itself as a venue for thoughtful introduction to ideas and installations that are sensitive to artistic intent.
