Cynthia Chiang
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Cynthia was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and moved to Vancouver at the age of four. From her early years of childhood, Cynthia started her piano studies and began participating in regional performances with the Donna Fishwick Piano Ensemble. As she learned to appreciate music on a deeper and more meaningful level, she developed her passion for music. She has now received the Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate in Piano Performance as well as the Elementary Piano Pedagogy Certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music.
At Burnaby North Secondary School, Cynthia was heavily involved in extracurricular activities. She took on numerous leadership positions to voice opinions and concerns of her peers; some of which included Grade 11 Representative, Vice President of Student Government, and Representative for the Burnaby School District Student Advisory Committee. Driven by social well-being initiatives, Cynthia created the Free the Children Club at Burnaby North, and through running creative events; the club raised $2,000 annually for children in poverty. Cynthia discovered her interest in business when she was the Director of Operations of the Entrepreneurship Venture Club. Participating in the CIBC Junior Achievement Company program, the club started a business from the ground up, creating an essential hygienic care kit for elementary students and pitching to school administrations. The project won Best Shareholders’ Report Award and Most Innovative Idea Award in the program.
Today, Cynthia is in her second year at the Sauder School of Business. She is the VP of Events for the UBC International Business Club, and VP of Events and Strategic Planning for the UBC Human Resources Management, and recently became a Tax Specialist Volunteer for the UBC Tax Assistant Clinic for Students. Because of her passion of working with people, Cynthia has found much joy in working in customer service roles in different industries, and is currently, Cynthia is a Customer Service Representative at Shape Properties Corp.
Academics and work aside, Cynthia is an outdoor enthusiast who loves skiing, hiking, paddle boarding, and kayaking. She loves donating her time to local organizations such as the BC Cancer Agency and TELUS World of Science. She is hoping to take her passion for volunteering one step further by teaching English on a weeklong volunteering trip to Peru with International Volunteer HQ sometime in the next year.
