Cynthia Dixon
Cynthia Dixon is the loving and devoted mother of two incredible children on the autism spectrum. She lives in North Carolina with her husband, Kelly, their boys, Justin and Eli, and their two dogs, Thunder and Oscar.
After leaving her position as an assistant in an exceptional children's classroom in 2010, Cynthia became a full-time homeschool teacher to their oldest son, Justin. Eli was born in 2011, and Cynthia eventually took on the role of homeschooling him as well. She is currently taking a break from the homeschool world and attempting to navigate the local "free and appropriate public education." It has been a major adjustment for both Cynthia and her boys. She is not a fan of IEP meetings.
Cynthia wrote Raising Rainbows - a delightful glimpse into her life as a mother of children on the autism spectrum. She takes readers through the ups and downs of raising these amazing kids and provides insight into the emotions and concerns often experienced by parents of children on the spectrum.
When Cynthia isn't writing she spends the majority of her time attending therapy appointments, doctor appointments, and IEP meetings. Cynthia also volunteers on the board of the Johnston County Chapter of the Autism Society of North Carolina.
Cynthia enjoys reading, eating chocolate, watching Netflix, and sleeping. She also greatly appreciates caffeinated beverages! This all might sound terribly boring or even lazy, but when you rarely get to enjoy the simple pleasures such as television and sleep, you tend to hold them in higher regard. Her life is crazy, messy, and anything but glamorous, yet she loves every second of it. She is very thankful for her chaos and all the love that comes with it!
