Dr Cyril Toma
Cyril D Toma, MD, MBA is the Chief Executive Officer of Global Medical Solutions in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. Between 2005 -2010 he served as the Medical Director of Prince Court Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and prior to that, held the position of the Deputy Head of the Division of Musculoskeletal Oncology at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Vienna General Hospital (2002 to 2005).
Dr. Toma received his MD from the Medical University of Vienna after which he completed a research fellowship at the Laboratory for the Study of Skeletal Disorders and Rehabilitation, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical University of Vienna.
Dr. Toma has authored or coauthored 51 articles and 4 book chapters. His main research focus is in the areas of Musculoskeletal Oncology and Cartilage Biology. He is a member of the Austrian and Malaysian Society for Orthopaedic Surgery, International Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SICOT), International Society for Limb Salvage Surgery, Austrian Musculoskeletal Oncology Society (AMSOS), International Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and the Austrian Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
Dr. Toma is a corresponding member of the editorial board of the Journal International Orthopaedics and serves as reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (Br.) as well as Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. Dr. Toma is a recipient of 8 honors and awards, including the Research Award presented by the Austrian Society for Orthopaedic Surgery and the Young Investigator Award of the International Society for Chemistry and Biology of Mineralized Tissues. In honor of his outstanding service and achievement as a global leader in the musculoskeletal community, Dr. Toma was awarded the title Ambassador of the Bone and Joint Decade in 2005. Within SICOT, Dr. Toma has been the Chairman of the Young Surgeons Committee since 2001.
