Volunteer, Student, and Mother in Wichita, Kansas

I am a 35-year-old, single mother, veteran, full-time student and passionate about the development of underprivileged children through sport. Currently, I volunteer by coaching two teams for League42 baseball and a girls’ softball team at Andover Parks & Recreation. I also volunteer for Alzheimer’s Association by playing quarterback in their annual charity flag football game. I help throughout the year at different events to assist in selling tickets to the game and raise awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease. I am currently involved with the Student Veteran Organization at WSU. I am conducting research to build a database of scholarships to help fund our veterans’ education.

Upon my graduation in May of 2018, I will be on the market for a Sport related job.

My personal short-term goal is to help in my home town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The “future” Eureka Springs Community Center is on its way in gaining the funds it needs to get off the ground. The average income in the area is below $25k per year. I am working with the Board of Directors to build programming for after-school and summer camp sport programs by utilizing what space is available while the Community Center is built. I plan to work with the town and volunteer my time to implement sport programs and raise funds until the Center is built.

My long-term goal is to one day build an organization that provides the financial and supporting needs for kids wanting to play elite sports. It will cater to the low-income families and their children, as well as, foster children. There are a variety of requirements that a young elite athlete needs to fulfill. There are needs for funds for equipment, tryout fees, team fees, transportation to practices and games, gas for vehicle, and, eventually, travel funds to compete in tournaments and at State and National levels. I want to help soften, if not eliminate, the financial burden.
