Daisy Arriaga-Lopez

New York, New York, United States

Greetings! My name is Daisy Arriaga-Lopez and I am a New York City Native. Currently attending CUNY Lehman College for a Masters in Social Work (MSW) and I have a Bachelors in Journalism from Ithaca College. I decided to enter the social work profession because I saw the hope for disenfranchised youth in my neighborhood disappearing. I belive our children are our future and without hope and support our future doesn't look so promising. I would like to do Clinical Family Therapy because family is the first support system a child is exposed to and it is very important to keep families as strong as possible.

When I am not in school I am a proud supportert of She's the First, an organization that sponsors girl's education globally. As an undergrad I founded the Ithaca College chapter of the organization to spread awareness on the inequalitites of edducation. As a chapter we raised enough to sponsor a girl in India to attend school for a year ($1,600 Cost). I am a Designer of Origami Owl and I donate 10% of my commission monthly to sponsor a girl in Peru to attend school ($1,100 cost).

Aside from school I love to write. Writing is something I will never get tired of. I went to Ithaca College to study Journalism because I wanted to be apart of the team that investigated politics and provided the public with the truth. As I continued my years at Ithaca I realized that I wanted to help make a difference. I wanted to help those who did not have a voice speak up. That is when I knew that mainstream journalism wasn't for me. I plan on continuing to write and hope to obtain a PhD in the future.
