Daisy
Student in Manchester, United Kingdom
Hello!
I'm Daisy and I'm currently a film and media student at the Manchester School of Art. This page will hopefully tell you everything you need to know about me and my interests in cinema and television.
My favourite genre of film is Horror, as a thirteen year old Daisy was too scared (and not tech savvy enough) to watch Horror films online, without DVDs to watch what I wanted to, I went to the most reliable source on the internet (Wikipedia...obviously), to read all the plots to the films I could not watch. I think this is where my particular interest in the narrative of the genre started as I spent hours reading the plots to Saw and A tale of two sisters alike. This interest in haunting narratives has become one of my favourite hobbies, I am deeply interested by True Crime and love reading books on the subject. I would love to utilise my blog to try to interlink both of these subjects together.
I am also incredibly interested in the concept of voyeurism in film. I was first attracted to the theme during my A2 Film Studies research for Alfred Hitchcock, particularly Vertigo. After watching Zižek's The Pervert's guide to Cinema, I have come to realise how essential voyeurism is to the cinematic experience, for both characters and audience alike. It has, in my opinion, become socially acceptable for voyeuristic tendencies to become an essential part of modern life. Social media allows us to bare all whilst followers and people around the world gaze on at our lives through a screen. Scottie's voyeurism is detrimental to his mind and body in Vertigo and this is what's particularly interesting about Hitchcock- he warns the audience about gazing, as they gaze at the film.
I have an IMDb watchlist which is public and avaliable here: http://www.imdb.com/user/ur65589187/watchlist?ref_=wt_nv_wl_all_1
