Dalian Terry
Senior Security Engineer and Managing Consultant in Stockholm
Hey, my name is Dalian, but 99% of people call me Dal.
I'm a super passionate cyber security professional. I often say to people in my day to day life that I genuinely love and enjoy my job and that is the number 1 important thing for me in life that I'm fortunate enough to work in cyber security as a professional. It comes from wanting to just understand things, so I relish it when I don't fully understand something, which is quite often with every day being a new challenge.
I initially started in pen testing as a professional but mainly my passion comes from when I was 6 years old on an old PC with dial-up internet and exploring websites like Habbo Hotel and figuring out how to design a website in PHP. That and playing Counter-Strike 1.6 back in the late 90's.
My first love for cyber security came when someone hacked into a DJ login panel me and a friend created for an online radio platform called ShoutCast. Someone had broken into our backend which was mySQL. From there when I found out it was something called SQL injection I was obsessed with finding and understanding flaws in web apps.
I really enjoy mentoring some of the future talent coming through, so much so I'm still in touch with one of my old lecturers at university that gets me involved in their CTF's for undergraduates and masters students.
Outside of my professional interests, I'm really very much into playing lots of tennis and padel, sometimes upwards of 6-7 times a week, that it has become an addiction. It gives a nice break away from my day-to-day work.
One thing that I think people find interesting about me is my interests in magic and mentalism which I've studied closely since I was a kid. If you're lucky enough to meet me one day I may pull out a trick or two :)
And if you have got this far into reading this waffle-fest, first of all, I'm impressed, and second of all feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/dalianterry
