Mohamed Ali Cherif
Artist and Dancer in Houston, Texas
Mohamed Ali Cherif, young choreographer and performer, born in La Marsa, Tunisia on April 24, 1991. Since his childhood, Mohamed Ali has had an interested in dance and music. He quickly grew curious of the Hip Hop culture. Mohamed Ali began as a Breakdancer and then discovered the world of contemporary dance as he joined the Tunisian dance company Sybel Ballet Théâtre directed by choreographer Syhem Belkhodja.
In the course of the 5 years he spent in the company, Mohamed Ali Cherif performed in the contemporary dance pieces Les Frontières de l’invisible, Rojla and 30 ans déjà, choreographed by Syhem Belkhodja. Mohamed Ali also performed independently in pieces Nevrose and Here we are. Mohamed Ali Cherif has had the privilege of working with choreographers from around the world including Emily Schoen, Nejla Yatkin, Larry Keigwin, and Seifeddine Manai.
Through his diverse background and experiences Mohamed Ali Cherif has developed his own dance language and his own vision of contemporary dance which prompted him to create his first solo “AAwaj” which translates from Tunisian as distortion or contradiction. The solo which was performed at the opening of Tunis Capital de la Dance 2017 earned Mohamed Ali Cherif a standing ovation.
