Software Engineer, Web Developer, and iOS Developer in New York
Welcome. Damian Esteban here. I'm a passionate software developer and designer with a focus on iOS. I'm also an avid Unix user, Star Wars fanatic, comics aficionado, and world traveler.
I've been interested in computers since I was a kid, but it wasn't until I completed a course at New York Code and Design Academy that I knew what I actually wanted to do. I decided to shift from web development to programming apps, which allowed me more diverse opportunities in the mobile market.
Now, I'm a software engineer and Chief Technology Officer at BetterPT, a startup focused on health applications. Additionally, I co-founded Bracket Factory, a New York-based development shop.
Recently I have decided to become re-acquainted with JavaScript, specifically React.js and Meteor.js. I am very familiar with RESTful API design, Unix server administration and DevOps. When it comes to iOS apps, I have a particular interest in home automation, geofences, iBeacons and augmented reality.
For me, development work isn't simply a job; it's a lifestyle, to the point that I have recently begun working on a book about iOS development with ReacticeX.
Please feel free to contact me.
Aside from coding and development, I'm a big fan of comic books and travel. Spiderman, Batman, and Superman round out my favorite stock heroes, but I'm also a big fan of Deadpool. I regularly write about comics on my comics blog, so feel free to give that a look.
As far as travel goes, I've been doing that since I was kid. I'll never forget my first trip with my dad. We were taking a ferry from the southern tip of Spain to Morocco. I remember the feeling of excitement (and fright) that ultimately left me with a new sense of wonder. I've been chasing that perspective ever since.
I've traveled across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent (where I've traveled six times). One of my favorite destinations has to be Ladakh. It's a region in in Northern India that's right near the Tibet border. It can sometime be a bit of pain to get there, but it's totally worth it. The people are welcoming and the weather if fantastic almost year-round. You can read up more on my adventures and tips on my travel blog.
