In the world of open source products it happens again and again that parts of the community split off from the actual project in order to realize their own thoughts and ideas in a similar project.
This is what happened to the popular Gambio shop system. The original system was based on an earlier version of the popular xt: eCommerce shopping option. Some users no longer agreed with the development and began to change the source code according to their own ideas. Today Gambio is one of the popular systems in German-speaking countries - thanks to the features, rightly so.
Gambio Shop as an alternative to xt: commerce
To understand the history of Gambio you have to go back in time and realize that xt: commerce was also an open source software for a while. The community developed the system under the supervision of a small company and in this way offered a good opportunity to use a modern and always modular shop system. At some point, however, the company decided to get call recorder for iphone download on a commercial basis and to start the project for Veyton. Almost simultaneously with the announcement, some parts of the community split off and dedicated themselves to the Gambio project.
For this purpose, they took the older system of the popular xt: commerce system and began to incorporate various plugins based on this and to revise the system as a whole. Particular effort has been made here, especially with regard to the functions. The backend was almost completely revised and the system was released with the aim that the owner of an online shop has almost no work to do with daily administration. The Gambio system is clearly aimed at shop owners with larger presences who no longer have time to work on their shop every day. But the work on the backend was not the only relevant change to the system.
Lots of new features, big community
The Gambio system also first appeared under the popular open source license. During the first months of development, the community gradually built new functions into the system, which can now also be found in the latest versions of the xt: commerce variant. So one has adapted to the modern payment systems and revised all important functions for orders and articles. Adapting the backend provided the most important help here. In contrast to many other systems, it is much easier for the administrator to enter relevant things into the system.
