His great grandfather is the Daniel Willard who was president of the B & O Railroad for almost two decades. It is family tradition, passed father to son, that honor never goes out of fashion and that finding and helping decent people at a fair price is the only way to run a railroad.

Dan served for many years on the board of directors of the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
He coached soccer in the MSI soccer leagues for his daughters' teams, for 10 seasons. He chairs the father's committee at the high school of one of his daughters.
