Dan Kennedy
Columbia, Mo.
Dan is currently a weekday general assignment and investigative reporter for KOMU 8 News, mid-Missouri's NBC affiliate. He shoots, writes and edits enterprise stories for the station's newscasts and website and anchors the Sunday evening newscasts. During the 2012 election, he anchored interactive around-the-clock coverage using a touch screen and Telestrator.
Additionally, Dan writes for Newsy.com, a multimedia video news source based in Columbia, Mo. He files multiple daily reports for Newsy's website and tablet and smartphone app.
Dan is a natural communicator having spent his high school years managing, producing and providing play-by-play commentary for the school's sports broadcasting network. At age nine, he fell in love with the world of broadcast news and began shadowing reporters at WRCB, the NBC affiliate in his hometown of Chattanooga, TN. He began honing his broadcasting skills in the basement of his home where he built a replica of the WRCB set. He returned to WRCB for several summers as an intern.
Dan says his greatest feeling of journalistic accomplishment was in September 2012 when he broke the story of price gouging at a local four star hotel. After the story aired, the state attorney general and a senator got involved and pressured the hotel into issuing refunds to customers. That story, he says, let him experience firsthand how he could be an advocate for viewers while acting as a government and business watchdog.
Dan has two younger bothers. Away from the television station, he enjoys playing golf, swimming and running.
