Dana Collette is a retired teaching professor at Vancouver Island University (VIU) in British Columbia, Canada. Dana worked at the island university since 2002 and taught Commercial Law, Negotiations, Business-Government Relations, and Principles of Management. She also taught Introduction to Criminal Law, Computer Law, Computers & Society, and Law & Technology.

A native of the beautiful province of British Columbia, Dana Collette earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Victoria (UVic) in 1999. From there, Dana went on to study law at UVic Faculty of Law, receiving her Juris Doctor in 2003. During her last year of law school, she also qualified for her Real Estate License from the University of British Columbia. During her last term of law school, Dana worked as a legal advocate at the Law Centre, for which she received the 2003 Faculty of Law Award for Excellence in Community Law.

Dana practiced real estate at DFH Real Estate Ltd. in Victoria from 2003 to 2005. During that time and following, she also completed several contracts related to privacy law for the B.C. provincial public sector, including at the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner and the government ministry responsible for privacy and access legislation.

In the beginning of her career as an educator, Dana taught on the subject of computers and society at both VIU (then Malaspina University-College) and UVic. In 2006, Dana began teaching full-time at VIU in the Faculty of Management, where she continues her decade and half commitment to educating students from all over Canada and the world.

In 2007, Dana started the Law Network for business students. With the help of a colleague in Political Science & Liberal Arts, that network evolved to become the VIU Law Network, linking VIU students and alumni who have a common interest in law. Dana and her colleague also developed a Legal Studies Certificate program for VIU. Dana helped to establish the Canadian Academy of Legal Studies in Business, a national organization for Canadian business law teachers.
