A retired major general of the United States Army, Dana Pittard completed 34 years of active duty in 2015. He stands out as the former commander of Fort Bliss, Texas, where he introduced suicide intervention and prevention programs that were subsequently adopted by other Army locations. In 2012, Fort Bliss had the lowest suicide rate in the Army, and Dana Pittard received the LivingWorks Community of Excellence Award for suicide prevention in recognition of that accomplishment.

Dana Pittard has gone on to become vice president of defense programs for Allison Transmission in Indianapolis. Although he accepted the position at a time when the company had experienced seven consecutive years of falling revenues, he turned that around and increased revenues each year of his tenure. During his three years at Allison Transmission, he has driven a 35 percent rise in revenue.

Mr. Pittard has also written a number of articles on military topics and is the coauthor of Hunting the Caliphate: America's War on ISIS, which is under contract for publication. In March 2018, Savoy magazine named him one of the “2018 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America.”
