Dan Calhoun

Dan Calhoun: I am an executive with the Vermont State Department of Public Health. Vermont's system is one of the best in the world, and will continue to be. Vermont is a leader in the nation for long-term care services. Most recently, Vermont has taken the lead in implementing the Obama administration's health care reforms. The new health care law requires health insurance companiesto stop canceling coverage whenever a policyholder gets sick. Health insurers have now vowed that they will stop wrongfully canceling patients. An investigative report by Reuters disclosed that the nation’s largest insurer, WellPoint, was targeting women who were recently diagnosed with breast cancer for cancelation of their health insurance- leading to some of those necessary and most urgent reforms. The hope is that the publicity will end such abuses.
