Dan has 20 years experience working in the Global footwear, fashion and retail industry.
As a graduate of Design Technology, Business and Marketing Dan started his career at Dr. Martens working in a number of marketing roles and functions before becoming Global Marketing Director.
Dan then moved to Austin Reed in a brand-marketing role to gain a better understanding of the retail sector.
Having gained his retail experience Dan established Binocular Marketing, a business and marketing consultancy, and Twenty Six Bones, a footwear design and sourcing company. Through these businesses Dan worked with companies ranging from the Open University to Aldo and also established a European network of distributors and agents for United Nude footwear and Vivo footwear.
With the introduction of footwear Anti-Dumping Duty by the European Union in 2006 Dan took the decisson to close his companies and moved to Pentland Brands (Speedo, Berghaus, Ellesse, Lacoste, Kickers, etc) as Business Development Director in their private label sourcing division known as Sourcing Unlimited. Following a one-year secondment as Footwear Director in Dongguan, China, where he re-structured the sourcing operation, Dan joined One True Saxon Footwear and Gio Goi Footwear within Pentland’s footwear division as Managing Director.
As Managing Director Dan was responsible for establishing both business units from scratch including design, sourcing, finance, marketing and sales.
Following the acquistion of Gio-Goi and One True Saxon by JD Sports Dan left Pentland Brands to establish Daniel Gyves Consulting, a multifaceted consultancy working with brands and retailers to help then leverage and enhance their businesses for longevity and growth. Clients to-date include, Govan of Scotland, BAIT footwear, Pour La Victoire and Kelsi Dagger.
In early 2012 Dan undertook an 18 month placement at Shuropody, a business backed by Private Equity firm B.G.F, as Interim Marketing Director where he oversaw the opening of 20 new stores, launched an 'industry first' fully automated online booking system, grew e-commerce sales by 1000% and was heavily involved in the product/ selection process.
Dan is a Non-Executive Director of the British Footwear Association and is also a co-founder of Esska, an internationally distributed women’s footwear brand.
