Dani Hewitt
Senior Lecturer
I am a Senior Lecturer at BIMM University, Bristol, specializing in Music Events Management, Fandom & Audiences, and Gender Studies. My research interests focus on music fandom, gender, and scene theory, with a particular emphasis on the experiences of female fans in the South Wales Valleys’ alternative music scene (2000–2012).
With nearly two decades of experience in the music industry, I have worked as a freelance Music Events Manager since 2006, collaborating with organizations such as Live Nation and Orchard Media & Entertainment. My experience includes roles at major festivals, including Reading, Download, and Slam Dunk.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Events Management and an MSc in Events Project Management from Cardiff Metropolitan University, as well as a PGCE from the University of South Wales. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
In 2016, I co-founded W.O.M.E.N. (Women of Music and Events Network), a social enterprise that supports cis and trans women, as well as non-binary people, in the early stages of their music industry careers through mentorship, networking, and skills development.
In 2023, I co-founded FanGrrrls, a research project and podcast examining the identity, cultural impact, and commercial exploitation of female music fandom.
