Ever since I took Mrs. Marlene Melvin’s class on the American Legal system as a sophomore at South Gwinnett High School, I knew that I wanted to be an attorney. My dream to be an attorney came true on November 4, 2000. I have been practicing criminal defense attorney since then. I have spent the majority of my career as a public defender. Wherever I practiced, I have endeavored to fight for the rights of my clients, and to make their stories heard.
I have handled cases in Juvenile Court where I strove to defend juveniles that the State of Georgia charged with delinquent acts. Moreover, I represented parents in deprivation and termination of parental rights cases. I advocated for the parents and did my best to reunite families.
For criminal charges in the State and Superior Courts, I have handled all aspects of criminal litigation including committal hearings, arraignments, plea negotiations, motion preparation and argument, judge and jury trials, probation revocation hearings, and appeals with one singular goal: to defend my clients to the best of my ability. I have taken cases with serious felony charges to trial, and I have convinced juries of my client’s innocence.
I feel that it is important to give back to the community. During my time as a public defender, I participated in the "Transition into Law Practice" program offered by the State Bar of Georgia to mentor newly admitted attorneys. In addition, I was a work-based mentor for the Work Based Learning program offered through the Rockdale Career Academy to provide high school students the skills to work in a law office and a better understanding of the criminal justice system.
I believe that every person has a right to be treated with respect, dignity, and fairness in the eyes of the law. I represent every client diligently and energetically.
Now, I have taken this energy and passion to the Gwinnett County Solicitor's Office.
