Daniel Auguste has sports in his blood. Inspired by his athletically obsessed parents and older brother, Auguste became well versed in sports from a young age. His sports education ran the gamut and included soccer, football and especially basketball. Saturday morning cartoons held little weight in a household obsessed with Sports Center, making him somewhat of an outlier amongst his peers.
In 2009, Auguste became one the youngest members of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IABBO), earning his high school certification in Board #33. This gave him a unique insight into the intricacies of the game and the ability to give back to a sport that gave him so much growing up.
After graduating from Seton Hall University with a degree in Communications with a concentration on Journalism, he started his sports blog, Intangible Sports, which evolved into his company Intangible Sports LLC. To fund his new venture, he started hosting Monday Night Football events at Meatpacking Hotspot Snap Sports Bar and Grill.
Auguste found himself disillusioned with the prevailing state of sports journalism and media surveillance that scrutinizes an athlete’s every move. With the next breaking scandal just a camera phone click away, sports journalism has become a loaded topic that sensationalizes the pitfalls of a player’s career instead of its successes.
Upping the ante is Auguste’s forthcoming YouTube channel; an interview format that gives athletes an open forum to the set the record straight and take back control of their media personas. Auguste’s casual interview style avoids the stodgy press junket formula and puts the spotlight back on the players, keeping the conversation loose and the topics germane. These casual one-on-ones reveal the complex personalities behind these sports figures in an effort to unearth what exactly makes them tick.
Every athlete has a story to tell and Daniel Auguste intends to bring that truth to the fore.
