Photographer, Teacher, and Artist in Sykesville, Maryland
The unifying thread throughout my work is place, a concept of both space and atmosphere. Place can be small and intimate—a room, a small house, a country church; large and grand—a country estate, a palace, a cathedral; a building or structure; or a broader area or concept—such as a community or neighborhood. Place includes all our built environment both formal and informal and it includes our landscapes. My photography responds to humanity’s deep need and love of place and captures both the physical nature and the ambience of place: a country church is more than just a physical building; it is a sacred place, loved by parishioners. I look for the extraordinary in ordinary places, places that speak to people’s need of place and the way that they root themselves in a place that is their own.
