I have a keen interest in understanding infectious diseases & learning how to mitigate their awful effects on the lives of all humans, in particular the impoverished & disenfranchised.

More importantly, I wish to communicate this knowledge to people who lack a so-called 'western' education. I am developing a website for this purpose. It is still a work in progress: http://infectiousDisease.ca.

I also have an interest in helping refugees, internally displaced persons, forced & economic migrants, & immigrants to learn English, a global 'lingua franca'. I am developing a website to support their own individual efforts. This also is still a work in progress: http://myEnglish.ca.

My values in life are somewhat reflected in these injunctions of 16th Century theologian Menno Simons ...

"True evangelical faith cannot lie dormant; it clothes the naked; it feeds the hungry; it comforts the sorrowful; it shelters the destitute; it binds up what is wounded; it heals the sick; it becomes all things to all people."

... as well as in these excerpts from Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel's 1986 Nobel Prize acceptance speech ...

“When human lives are endangered … that place must – at that moment – become the center of the universe …”

“As long as one child is hungry, our lives will be filled with anguish and shame.”

“What all these victims need above all is to know that they are not alone …that when their voices are stifled we shall lend them ours …”

“Our lives no longer belong to us alone; they belong to all those who need us desperately.”
