Daniel Bland
Student, Filmmaker, and Photographer in Guildford
Final year Film Production and Broadcast Engineering student at the University of Surrey.
During my time both studying my degree and working for professional production companies in the Television industry I have continuously expanded my skillsets. This includes developing my proficiency in directing, editing, cinematography, sound recording/editing, and broadcast and network engineering.
Through my degree I have gained experience with collaborating with other filmmakers, musicians, and actors to produce short films and music videos.
I also undertook a placement year with a major host broadcast company, playing an important role in the production of live programming such as the most recent season of the Formula E World Championship. This involved fairly frequent travel to various locations, both within the UK and across the world. I also had the opportunity to use professional camera equipment and assisted in the production and editing of shows to be broadcast on ITV and Channel 4.
While the majority of my experience stems from the Television and live broadcasting industry, I have a stronger interest and ambition to pursue a role within the film industry. I have led various short film projects and worked on several others which has allowed me to further expand my knowledge of on-set etiquette, lighting techniques, camera operation, DIT workflows, sound recording and post-production.
I aim to use my final year of University to further develop my cinematography, editing and directing skills to put them to use in my future career.
