I am presently finishing my PhD in Cultural Studies at George Mason University. My dissertation considers the omnipresence of "mindfulness" in contemporary North American social life, a topic which opens onto surprising possibilities. I teach, and have taught at Portland State University (where I earned my BA & MA degrees), the University of Nevada, Reno, the University of Idaho, and Washington State University. I am passionate about teaching, and particularly enjoy working with "returning students" and adult learners.
My research interests are diverse and eclectic: utopian political economy in science fiction, dialectical approaches to ecocriticism and problems with the same, and the cultures of the American West. And Buddhism, and critical theory.
My spouse and I are preparing to adopt some children. We also have two enormous tomcats.
