I love news. I love it so much that I left my job at a local Boston news station as an associate director in the control room to advance my skills and ensure my future in it. I moved down to Washington D.C. to pursue a masters degree in journalism and public affairs at American University.
This is not the first time I’ve relocated to pursue my career. After some local internships and a student leadership role at Boston’s Emerson College, I packed up my life and moved to Los Angeles to intern with the International Documentary Association. I worked with Academy-Award-nominated documentary filmmakers and helped to coordinate special events surrounding the awards show.
I returned to Boston and graduated cum laude from Emerson College with a bachelor’s degree in visual and media arts. I then went on to work at Boston’s NBC affiliate WHDH, before relocating to Washington DC.
Although skilled in various areas of news production, I’m passionate about producing long-form reports for film and television that illuminate social issues facing marginalized people.
My diverse working class upbringing by a Barbadian mother and Irish-Catholic father gives me a unique point of view, but also the ability to relate to the rising tide of multi-ethnic young people in this country. I hope to explore these themes in the future.
