When thinking about why I want to become a teacher, Socrates comes to my mind. In his apology to the Athenian academy, Socrates masterfully refutes the accusation that he was intentionally corrupting the youth. Socrates explains that any person would strive toward ends for their personal benefit. By corrupting the youth of Athens, Socrates would be harming himself, an illogical goal for any self-preserving individual. The youth in my community will be the ones I rely on someday. As such, my passion and drive is to strengthen and empower them to be better than the generations before them.
