Danielle McCandless

My name is Danielle and I am a current graduate student, professional educator, and lifelong learner. My primary education interests are in the areas of literacy and educational technology. I grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona and recently moved to Des Moines, Iowa to attend graduate school and be closer to family.

I earned my bachelors degree in physiological sciences and psychology from the University of Arizona. During that time, my research area was the neurophysiological basis of emotion and it's effects on learning. The experience deeply impacted my decision to become and educator and my views on learning.

After moving to Iowa in 2010, I was given the opportunity to teach an amazing group of prekindergarten students. Needless to say, I fell in love with teaching and at the end of that year began my graduate work at Drake University to gain licensure as an elementary teacher and earn my Masters degree in Education. I hope to teach upper elementary school and would eventually like to pursue a PhD. I also have an IT business, which provides website design and training services.

I believe it's an exciting time for Education and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. My teaching philosophy is influenced greatly by my belief in differentiation and creativity in the classroom, and I am always looking to grow as an educator.
