Someone once said, “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole”. My name is Danielle and I live for the runs, the Netflix marathons and the hot summer lake days with my dog. She is a black Labrador Retriever and her name is Samantha. She is kind and gentle. She is fast and fierce. She brings excitement and calmness not only to me, but to my whole household. My mom, my brother, my mom’s boyfriend, my dad, and I all benefit from the compassion this 85 pound gentle giant bestows upon us daily. She is present through the ups and the downs. She is a companion like no other that luckily for me, was placed into my life.
In my nineteen years of life I have had 6 dogs. In my past 2 years of living on my own I have learned more from each and every one of those dogs, past and present, than I have in my nineteen years on this earth. Being away from the comrade, the go-to buddy at home, has taught me so many things. My fast paced style of living, my type A personality, and quirky habits are something I have to share with this world. My dogs have helped me to see this. They have shown me how to be a friend, a caretaker, and a lover. They have shown me relentless friendship and given me more fun, adventures, and cuddles than I could ever ask for. My life has been shaped through my interactions with these fur-babies and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity I have had and will hopefully continue to have with these beautiful animals.
