Daniel Meritt
Student and Software Engineer in Morehead, Kentucky
Good day to you. My name - as aforementioned - is Daniel Meritt. I was born in Seymour, Indiana, and I moved here to Morehead nearly six years ago for school. Currently a Junior in college at 18, I know a thing or two just as I am clueless on a thing or three. The tags below are a decent means of understanding how I work, but it may be best for me to explain my choices.
I enjoy food most when it isn't American. In fact, the foods that catch my eyes most are English, German, and Indian.
I've been writing nearly as long as I've been reading, thanks to the education system, and I've developed a few personal projects over the years - none of which are completed. However, I've got plenty of essays to compliment my writing career.
When life isn't busy, I generally volunteer in the community just to be doing something. Whether it's the local theatre, church choir, or odd job, I tend to invest my time with service. I've even spent some 140+ hours at the local soup kitchen, and I've worked nearly as many hours as IT assistant in the Rowan County school system, hence the title of 'Software Engineer'.
When I say 'crafts', I really mean two things: One, I do a lot of sketching in my spare time, and Two, I would eventually like to invest in a workshop and tools to try my hand at blacksmithing.
I appreciate martial arts in all forms, being a military history buff and a former practitioner of Olympic Fencing, but the one art I'd love to get into is HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) just because fencing is too Renaissance-ey for me.
The profile picture used is a crest of the Anglo-Norman house from whence I came, Marriott. To provide a little background, the Normans were a proto-French group of Europeans headed by a fellow named William in the eleventh century. He'd been promised inheritance of England and ended up having to fight for it, resulting in the well-known skirmish at Hastings in 1056. My ascendants, being his vassals, followed along and were rewarded land in modern day Somerset county, England.
My aspirations have led me to study and majour in Public History, which is a mix of museum work, archaeology, and public speaking. I hope to be working in such environments within the next ten years. My hope is that gaining some experience in a Professional Writing class will increase my social aptitude online for the purposes of gathering support and resources.
Thank you for your time, reader. I hope it's been a somewhat-worthwhile survey.
