Daniel Velazquez

Daniel Velazquez grew up in Asuncion, Paraguay, listening to his parent’s jazz records and to songs from the Nuevo Cancionero – an artistic movement that became the voice of many generations against political and social repression in Latin America. Daniel Velazquez started performing and producing musical theater as an English teacher in Paraguay. He also sang and recorded as a soloist with the Asuncion Symphony Orchestra. In the United States he has worked in Chicago with Quest Theater, and sang in San Francisco at the ODC Theater and the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts. In his performances, Daniel Velazquez conveys his deep love for the music of different cultures, in particular the North and South American songbooks.
