Daniel Wiens grew up with a hammer in hand, which led him to California Polytechnic State University’s (Cal Poly) Construction Management Department. While working on his university thesis project he developed a concept for a highly efficient humanitarian design and construction endeavor. Instead of following in the traditional footsteps of completing a theoretical project for his senior thesis, Daniel chose to design, engineer and construct a dental clinic in Belize. This project launched the birth of JourneymanInternational (JI), a 501c3 humanitarian design build endeavor.

JI provides opportunities for university students to work on real world humanitarian projects. His book 'The World Citizen Program' has created a culturally sensitive structure for designing around the world.

The JI business model provides an incredible return for donors, tremendous experience for students, and a valuable service for the developing world. Under Daniel’s leadership, Journeyman International has designed dozens of projects in over 20 countries. By the end of 2016 those numbers will have doubled.

Daniel is a speaker and strategist for sustainable design as a humanitarian asset, as well as innovative non profit business models. He has lectured at conferences and schools around the world, and gave the graduation commencement speech for Cal Poly's College of Architecture and Environmental Design in 2014.
